CUSHING’S SYNDROME

PROBLEM

Cushing’s syndrome has many symptoms, including weight gain, obesity, moon-shaped face, excessive hair growth, easy bruising, thin skin, muscle weakness, decreased or no menstrual periods, increased blood pressure, osteoporosis, and impaired wound healing.

CAUSE

Cushing’s syndrome is caused by excessive cortisol production.

TREATMENT/CARE

A.Take medications precisely as directed.

B.Avoid excessive alcohol.

C.You may be instructed to purchase a MedicAlert bracelet or necklace for any emergencies. This can be used to list your treatment and healthcare provider’s name and phone number.

Activity: Exercise is encouraged.

Diet: Eat a low-sodium, high-potassium, high-calcium diet.
