III. Red Flags

  1. Cardiac findings (suggesting. Congenital Heart Disease)
    1. Heart Murmur
    2. Extremity edema
    3. Jugular Venous Distention
  2. Developmental Delay
  3. See Dysmorphic features in Congenital Dysorders
  4. Failure to Thrive refractory to adequate caloric replacement
  5. Hepatomegaly or Splenomegaly
  6. Abnormal Lymphadenopathy
  7. Recurrent infections (e.g. recurrent respiratory infections, Recurrent UTI)
  8. Recurrent Vomiting or Diarrhea with dehydration

IV. Interpretation

  1. Positive findings suggest organic cause of Failure to Thrive and warrant diagnostic evaluation
  2. Negative findings (no red flags) are reassuring for non-organic cause and empiric caloric management can be instituted
